What is a Slot?

slot

A slot is a small space in which something can be placed, especially one that allows for a wide range of variations. For example, a slot in the body of a gun is used to hold bullets.

A television or radio programme’s time slot is the hour or minute when it is broadcast. A person’s job, school, or other commitment can also be considered a slot.

In electromechanical slot machines, a ’tilt’ was an adjustment to the machine’s operation that caused it to stop or pay out. This could be a result of a door switch being in the wrong position or some other technical fault. Modern slot machines do not have tilt switches, but any sort of malfunction may cause the machine to stop working.

The pay table for a slot game displays all the regular symbols and how much you can win for landing them on a pay line (or multiple pay lines in All Ways Pays games). It also displays information about any bonus features that are available. Typically, the pay table is aligned with the overall theme of the game.
